The folk group Bal Do Sabre revives, with the broadswords men dances, some precious cultural vestiges linked to ancient solar rituals which are still alive nowadays, thanks to the tradition.
Bagnasco is one of the few countries in Italy and in Europe which has kept alive this kind of dance, handed down from generation to generation.

The origin and the history

The broadswords men dance evocates a culture linked to some fertility propitiatory ancient rituals and is connected to symbolic values which are expression of our valleys’ social structure, typically peasant. .
The broadswords men are twelve, like the months of the year, and they dance with twelve ribbons which are braided at the end of the dance, in order to remind the spring awakening after the winter.

The performances

There are in Bagnasco some pictures and manuscripts documenting the performances in 1900, 1905, 1914, 1927, 1946 and 1952. The group activity has been nearly continuous since 1968.
At the end of the 80s the group began its activity also outside Italy, with several performances in Europe.
